Curriculum plans for week of 5/4

Theme: Pets

Hi Armadillo Families,

We will begin our Pet theme this week. Here are some activities for you to try. We hope you have some fun with them!.

Remember to check both the Armadillo class page and the general section of the TCW youtube channel for books and activities posted by the teachers.

Stay well,

Carol, Linda, Shayna and Peggy

Art:

-As you are eating your way through boxes of cereal, pasta, rice and crackers - build a cozy bed  for your stuffed pet using markers, cut paper, glue, or tape to decorate, and soft items like pieces of fabric, small throw pillows, folded washcloths or hand towels you find around your house for the cozy bedding.

Fine Motor:

-Paper worm or snake:  Either use a large paper plate or trace a large circle on paper.  Draw a swirl on the paper.  Cut following the lines.  Decorate with writing instruments or other available materials. Make hole near the head.  Put string, yarn, etc. in hole. Tie off. Now you have a dancing pet!

Sensory

-Have a cleaning/spa day for plastic animals that you may have at home. Fill a bucket with soapy water (do outside or put a towel under the bucket if inside), wash the toys with sponges or toothbrushes or just your hands. Have an extra towel to dry the toys when done. If you want to make this more realistic, take the toys outside and actually get them dirty before washing them.

Science and Nature/Art

-Find a pinecone on a nature walk.  Bring it home and add paper, sticks, or other items to turn it into a pet.  Extensions- Paint or roll pet in glue then roll in glitter.  Roll pinecone in peanut butter and bird seed to make it into a bird feeder. Math

-Collect as many stuffed animals as you can and count them. Hide them around the whole house or just a room or two while your child(ren) watch a show or close their eyes. Have you child(ren) find them and recount to be sure they’ve all been found
