Armadillo Activities for 4/15:

Hi Armadillo Families,

This week we will begin offering activity ideas related to a theme we would have been exploring in our classroom during the next couple of weeks. The Theme is “Spring”.

We hope you find these suggestions both helpful and fun!

Remember you can go to TCW’s youtube channel to watch videos of the teachers reading books.

We continue to keep you all in our thoughts and look forward to when we can be together again, for our next google meet circle time.

Love,

Carol, Linda, Peggy, and Shayna

Literacy/Writing Center Journal/bookmaking - During small group time, one of the activities we sometimes do is work in our journals. This is something you can recreate by folding paper in half and stapling into a booklet. With your child(ren), you can all draw pictures about the same subject ie. my favorite springtime activity, signs of spring, or draw a picture following a story about spring that you’ve read.                                                                                                  Your child and you can continue to use the booklets over the next couple of weeks, drawing additional pictures of whatever topic you or they choose.

Art Forsythia is blooming and you can put some in a vase to draw or paint what you see.

Gross Motor Acton Arboretum is a dog-friendly place where there are paths to walk outside of the woods or you can venture about a mile loop following the blazed trail. Look and listen for signs of spring, i.e. new plant growth, smell of flowers, sounds of birds.

-Walking on the Rail Trail you can find many pussy willow bushes to observe and touch.

Science Pick a tree or bush in your yard or near your home and watch it develop over the next week or two. You can draw pictures or take pictures, checking for budding of leaves and flowers.

Sensory Make some good old fashion mud pies. All you need is dirt from your backyard, water and some kitchen tools like spoons, bowls and baking pans. Sticks, stones, leaves, flower petals, etc. make great additional ingredients.

The armadillos love to work on writing words and to draw pictures about the theme that we are learning about. Use the spring words sheet to create a matching game, bingo game, or as a reference for drawing pictures or writing words.
