Week of 5/11

Hi Armadillo Families,

This week we will be thinking more about pets, Here are some activities you can try. We hope you enjoy them!

Maybe  we will see you at circle time or a small group this week.

Carol, Linda, Peggy and Shayna

Literacy: Have the child draw (or write if they want) an adventure about a pet from a book they have read such as Clifford or one that they have seen on tv or video

Fine Motor:  Make pet mice by drawing and cutting out a heart.  Then tape or glue a piece of string, ribbon or yarn in the middle.  Fold in half then glue, tape, or staple it together.  Put eyes on it or anything else that you like.

Dramatic Play: Have a pet show with all your stuffies by making paper ribbons for awards such as softest, cutest, etc. Get everyone involved in the voting.

Sensory: The following is a recipe for one day usage of yogurt silly putty. Using 1 cup of yogurt (smooth, no fruit chunks) and ¾ cup of corn starch, you can make silly putty. If the dough is too sticky, sprinkle a little more corn starch but if the dough is too dry, add a little more yogurt

Outdoor-Nature Based: Take a walk to find a rock that reminds you of an animal shape.  What pet could it be?  Color with markers or paint it.

Literary Extensions:

-Make a list or draw all the animals that you think could be pets.  There are many!     -Watch Video recordings of the stories we read at circle this week: Pete The Cat, read by Carol and Henry and Mudge, read by Shayna and Harry the Dirty read by Carol.

Fine Motor Extension: Check the classroom youtube channel for a video of Shayna making a pet octopus.

Dramatic Play Extension:  Create a list of pets that have been assembled.  Have the child make a mark for each vote.  Check totals.  Who has most, least, same, etc.

Outdoor/Nature-based  Extension:  Take your pet rock to visit some of the rooms in your house or for a walk around your neighborhood.  You can make a few and place them in areas for others to find.
